Killer Is Dead: Nightmare Edition (PC) – Awesome Gameplay, Not so Killer Design

Killer Is Dead: Nightmare Edition can be bought and downloaded from Steam which stars a cybernetically enhanced assassin that goes by the name of Mondo Zappa. Said killer slays mystics, vampires, and other monstrosities only to be believed to exist in fairy tales and myths. Zappa works for a government agency and brings humor, swag, and fast-paced action to the game. However, while the videogame offers a lot of promising elements with regards to its gameplay and narrative, it does lack appeal in its design department.

Killer Is Dead: Nightmare Edition is Brought to the PC

Killer Is Dead: Nightmare Edition is also available in the PS3 and Xbox 360. Gameplay is somewhat similar to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. In Killer is Dead, this is a character-based action game focused on sword-based fighting. It is a game wherein your character could not jump. Evading heavily relies on parries as a defensive matrix to stop attacks. For those who are new to the game, this may come as a disappointment, but it does bring plenty of challenge into the mix. While Mondo does lack the ability to jump, the learning curve on not being able to propel the character into the air is quite short.

Dispatching minions, goons, and enemy bosses are both effective and very pleasing to look at, albeit controlling the character is only handled by a simple three-button attack scheme. The cash earned from completing missions can be used to purchase new defensive and offensive combat moves. Think God of War, but once again you can’t jump.

By default, Mondo’s cybernetic arm in Killer Is Dead: Nightmare Edition (PC) also doubles as a cannon to which he can blast enemies and other targets at a distance wherein his sword could not immediately reach. To expand the arm’s functionalities, you will have to flirt with highly-attractive 3D women you will meet across the game in timed Mondo Girls mini-games.

While Killer is Dead offers a lot of promise, it lacks graphics and visual appeal. In short, it feels bland. This is due to the fact that the environments are oddly empty. Each level that players will come across has only a few enemies to slay, not what you would expect from playing Dynasty Warriors. Power-up filled containers to break are also scarce. In other words, the stages are visually cool when you look at it as a whole, but they do not contain much.

Therefore, Killer Is Dead: Nightmare Edition presents great-looking action-packed gameplay and battles but they are ultimately cut short every time. It has fast-paced combat, but a little bit too fast at times.
