The Kia Niro 2016 is the first small SUV crossover that is a hybrid powertrain. It is 4,355-millimeters in length which is in between the size of the Sportage and the Soul. Even though the Niro looks wider than the new Sportage, it is actually 55-millimeters narrower. The wider look is achieved by the squatter roofline as it is 100-millimeters lower than the Sportage.

The Kia Niro 2016 is the First Small SUV Crossover With a Hybrid Powertrain

Underneath the Kia Niro 2016, there’s a secondary-grille that has horizontal LED day running lights. These are installed in the outer edges of the bumper. If the headlights seem familiar, then they are since they have a similar to that of the new Sportage.

When looking at its exterior design, more specifically on its side, then there are tell-tale signs of the vehicle’s plain styling. There is a thick bump strip that that covers the lower edge of the doors. There are also body-cladding around the wheelarches wherein the stylistic headlights lie.

This simple design and architecture will continue on the internal of the Niro 2016. The cluttered looks simple but very clean and uncluttered. This also means there is a large touchscreen infotainment system with rows of vertical buttons along the dashboard. But do not let this simplicity get the best of you since these are all packed with the latest technology. For instance, there is wireless phone charging, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay functionalities.

On the dashboard, there are also futuristic dials that also look neat. There is also a long list of safety features such as automatic emergency brakes, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and there are 7 airbags inside the cabin.

The big news for this vehicle is that it is the first small SUV crossover that was designed specifically to be a hybrid powertrain. The vehicle is powered by a 1.6-liter petrol engine, which brings 104bhp and 147Nm of torque. There is also a 1.56kkWh lithium-polymer and a 32kW electric motor. These are all connected to a six-speed double clutch automatic transmission.

This vehicle is easily one of the smoothest hybrids that an individual can come across in today’s market. It can quietly slip between electric and petrol power modes even when around town.

The Kia Niro 2016 is a hybrid powertrain with a smooth driving performance. The car manufacturer may have cracked the solution between the compact SUV hybrid sector and produced a neat alternative to the Toyota Prius.
