Hitachi CP-WX4041WN Review – Bright Enough But Has Some Color Quality Issues

The Hitachi CP-WX4041WN comes with a 4,000-lumen brightness rating and can become an obvious candidate if you’re in the market for a projector to place inside a midsized classroom or conference room. With this kind of brightness level, it can even stand up to ambient light. The bad news here is that the projector sacrifices color balance for brightness levels. Color accuracy is off as it shows tints in some images, especially when in gray-scale areas. However, this might not be much of an issue unless you want images to be color accurate.

The Hitachi CP-WX4041WN Sacrifices Color Balance for Brightness

The Hitachi CP-WX4041WN has dimensions of 3.4 x 12.6 x 9.7-inches and has a weight of 6-pounds and 13-ounces. This makes it small and light enough to carry from room-to-room. However, with these numbers, it is more likely to be permanently installed or placed on a cart rather than having it brought into different rooms.

Setting it up is pretty standard, and the device comes with a manual focus and a manual 1.2x zoom. As for its image inputs, the unit comes with two HDMI ports (for computers or video sources), a composite video port, and two VGA ports. Additionally, there’s a USB Type B port for direct to USB display and for mouse control. The unit also comes with a LAN port for sending images and audio. The LAN port can also be used for controlling the projector from a network.

With its brightness rating, the CP-WX4041WN is easily bright enough to beam a suitably large image within a midsized room. It can throw an image of up to 326-inches (measured diagonally) when inside a theater-dark setting. For moderate ambient light, it can beam an image of up to 160-inches.

When it comes to throwing data images, this particular projector does admirably decent. However, it is short of being excellent as color balance is a big problem. While most projectors do show some tints in showing off gray colors, Hitachi’s offering shows tints in every mode. Tints are even more noticeable in some modes than in others.

However, if color balance won’t stop you from purchasing the Hitachi CP-WX4041WN, then know that every other aspect of the projector do score well. Aside from the gray-scales, colors are suitably vibrant and bright in all modes. The unit even has text performance that are better than some of its rivals. But if color balance for this device is a major caveat for you, and the fact that it does not have 3D functionality, then perhaps you are better off looking somewhere else.
