It has been recently announced that Final Fantasy XV will launch to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles on September 30th of this year. But before that, Square Enix brings us a surprise in the form of a CGI film entitled “Kingsglaive.” The film’s director is also the person who directed Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Therefore, those who have seen the epic FFVII CGI film will know that they are about to be in for a marvelous ride.
Final Fantasy XV Kingsglaive Movie to be Released Prior to Game
Kingsglaive is a Final Fantasy XV full CGI film and it will blur the lines between reality and animation. It will follow the adventures of a person named Nyx, who is part of an elite armed forces that has the same name as the film’s title. If you’re looking for Noctis, he may be in the film but he won’t be the main character for this one. After all, he already has his own game and his 5-episode anime series already.
Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV is brought by a star-studded cast which includes Lena Headey and even Sean Bean from the HBO hit series, Game of Thrones. Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad will also be part of the cast. While the exact date of the film is not set in stone just yet, it is promised to be released prior to the game’s launch on September 30. Also, the film won’t be shown in theaters but it will be available for streaming and download.
In the recent Uncovered event, Lena Headey and Aaron Paul were present while Sean Bean was only seen through a short video clip. Headey will play the role of Luna, Paul with Nyx, and Bean will play the role of King Regis which is the father of the game’s main hero, Noctis.
As per the PlayStation Blog, Square Enix has announced two blockbuster editions for fans of the Final Fantasy franchise. There is the deluxe edition (which will be produced in limited quantities) that will have the game as well as the CGI film. There is also an ultimate collector’s edition that will be available in even fewer quantities than the deluxe edition. With the ultimate collector’s edition, it will have more content and even a Play Arts Kai figure of Noctis.
The synopsis for Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive reads (as announced by Square Enix): “The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the hallowed Crystal, but the menacing empire of Niflheim will stop at nothing to make it theirs. War has raged between the two for as long as most can remember. King Regis of Lucis commands an elite force of soldiers dubbed the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, Nyx Ulric and his fellow glaives stand before the crown city of Insomnia, fighting to stay the inexorable advance of Niflheim’s imperial army. Before the overwhelming military might of the empire, King Regis can only salvage his kingdom by accepting an ultimatum—he must cede all lands outside the crown city, and see his son, Prince Noctis, wed to Lady Lunafreya, the former princess of Tenebrae now captive of Niflheim. As the war of wills rages, the machinations of Niflheim transform Insomnia into an awe-inspiring battleground, pulling Nyx into a struggle for the very survival of the kingdom.”
