There is a new DLC for Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate entitled “The Last Maharaja” wherein players would take control of twins Jacob and Evie Frye in their mission to return some stolen Indian gold. It is already available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of the game. Those who are playing the game with their PCs can get the DLC from Steam.
The Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate Lets Players Return Indian Gold With Evie and Jacob
Even though the Assassin’s Creed titles somehow had some struggle with telling stories that are also parts of rich global history, especially when it came to race and colonialism, this isn’t to say that gamers should automatically do away with the idea of trying Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate and its latest DLC. Story-wise, The Last Maharaja is not one to get overly excited with, but the DLC’s focal character, Duleep Singh, does show some promise. He is depicted from the newly released trailer as a being of high-principle with a keen interest in the return of the wealth stolen from his country. This immediately beats a lot of racist tropes and stereotypes found in the Victorian era, wherein the original game of Syndicate derives its setting. It is also fair to say that the environments are still as lush and as pretty as ever in this downloadable content.
Like what you can see in other titles of Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate: The Last Maharaja has a real historical figure in the form of Singh. He is the actual last Maharaja which is referred to in the title. He was friends with Queen Victoria during the same timeline portrayed within the game, and would later promote the lobby for India’s independence from the British regime. Singh is also one of the few characters is also a Sikh in a videogame.
These are all really cool information but it would do Ubisoft well to abide by the character’s story well. Well, you can’t really say it to be historically accurate by a hundred percent considering that (1) it is a videogame and (2) you are taking control of fictional characters. Nevertheless, it is still be great if the DLC would dive deeper into the meaning of the character’s birthright and overall appeal, more so that just a pile of stolen gold.
Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate and the Last Maharaja DLC are now playable in multiple gaming platforms, particularly for Xbox One, Steam, and PlayStation 4.
