The Samsung Portable SSD T3 is the successor to the T1 model, and if you’ve liked that then you would certainly love this newer variant. While the T3 offers a slightly slower speed than the T1, and it does cost a bit more even though it has the same capacities, it is still worth the consider. This is thanks to its better build quality and a more compact design.
The Samsung Portable SSD T3 is a Compact, Solid, and Spacious Storage Device
In terms of size, the Samsung Portable SSD T3 is a bit larger than its predecessor, and we’re not talking about the storage space here. However, despite being bigger, it is still compact enough to be mistaken for a bar of chocolate.
It boasts a sleek new aluminum casing, which is definitely a very good upgrade to the plastic covering of the T1. With this newer casing, it is now able to withstand shocks better. Samsung even claims that it can withstand up to 1,500 g’s of force, and it is claimed to withstand a drop from up to 2-meters (or 6.6-feet). Within the device you will find an Integrated Thermal Guard feature. This prevents the drive from overheating while placed in extreme temperatures. Therefore, you can definitely say that this particular storage drive is a compact yet tough device.
On one side of the Portable SSD T3 you will find a USB-C port as opposed to the predecessor’s Micro-USB 3.0 port. Even though the port has been changed, it still supports the USB 3.0 standard and at a top speed of 5Gbps. It should also be noted that it is compatible with USB 2.0 ports. With the use of a USB-C cable (which is sadly not included in the standard packaging), you are able to connect the storage device to Android tablets and some smartphones of today.
The most important feature to note from the T3 is its 3D-vertical NAND flash memory. This is an increasingly famous technology when it comes to manufacturing solid-state drives. With this technology, it greatly increases the density and essentially means that you get more storage for lesser the cost. However, it also translates to slower speeds but it is still fast enough to not become an actual deal-breaker.
When it comes to being a standalone drive, the Samsung Portable SSD T3 is definitely worth the consider. If you want a more solidly built storage device, then this is probably your best bet. It is, however, slower than its predecessor but still good enough for casual use.
