The Sony MDR-ZX110 is one of the company’s most popular on-ear models, which is also one of its more affordable ones. It boasts Sony’s iconic design and is a champion for those who are looking for a quality headset without having to break the bank. But the question here is, can Sony deliver a quality product in design, build quality, and performance in a low-budget package?

From a distance, the Sony MDR-ZX110 looks every bit a premium headset in terms of design alone. This is without checking out its very reasonable price tag. It has a combination of matte and gloss finishes on the body which comes across as a premium package for any other headphone within this price class. However, when you start to get a feel of it, then you will notice why it is placed in the budget-friendly category. The plastic material is flimsy and at times can be quite bendy. It also looks like it could not take much abuse so proper handling is advised.
One of its more unique features is its folding mechanism. When folding the device, it will allow the ear cups to twist inwards into the headband. This allows the MDR–ZX110 headphones to be easier to store when they are not in use. Apart from this feature, the headphones also feature 30-millimeter dynamic drivers with a frequency response range of 12 to 22,000Hz with 24Ohms of impedance. It also has a sensitivity rating of 98dB.
Another downside for the device is that it does not have an inline remote or mic. Which means that you will have to solely rely on your smartphone or the connected device to control the playback of your tracks. Also, you cannot take or receive calls with the headset.
But make no mistake, this is a pair of entry-level on-ear headset. As such, you won’t expect much for its feature set, build quality, and sound performance. Speaking of audio signatures, it does offer a meaty sound with a lot of emphasis on the low-end attack. The bass can become overpowering for some tracks which may not be to the liking of audiophiles who want clearly reproduced audio.
Even though it does look good right off the bat, the Sony MDR-ZX110 has the typical aesthetic that most of the company’s headphones share. However, since this is a budget-friendly pair of headphones, there are corners that have been cut to achieve this affordable package.
