While the 2016 McLaren 570S has super looks with its eye-popping colors, super specs, and super performance, it is not a supercar. But even though it is not called as such, think about this – Is Batman not a superhero just because he does not have any superpower? Therefore, can a regular car with really souped up looks and specs not be part of the “super” line? Even though it may not be part of such class, it still looks and handles every bit like a supercar.
The 2016 McLaren 570S is Still Super in the Eyes of Many
So what does the 2016 McLaren 570S have anything less than a supercar? Well, for starts its intended competition. The company plans to go up against Italian exotics in such a manner that it does with high-end sports cars such as the Porsche 911 Turbo and the Audi R8. These cars are the “almost” supercars, which is the territory in which McLaren is leaning over to play with their new Sports Series.
In order for the McLaren 570S to drop down a class, the engineers in the company would naturally had to sacrifice some areas. Therefore, the 570S does not have the magnetorheological anti-roll bar, hybrid boost, or adaptive rear wing that some of its sable companions would have. Furthermore, the engine “only” produces 562-horspower. Although it is priced at one-sixth of that of a hybrid hypercar, the price tag will still allow many to break into banks (so to speak).
Customers who can take the heat of paying for the 570S will know that it feels very much like a McLaren car should. If that is not immediately apparent upon taking your first glance on the car, then you may need to have your eyesight checked. But when you hear the roar of engine, then it would be music to your ears. Well, that may already be an obvious outcome from here on out.
For the 570S, McLaren got it right when talking about its exhaust notes. When the company launched the MP4-12C back in 2011, they paid little attention to this area. Thankfully this time, they have been listening. With the 570S, the turbos now do little to muffle out the sound and only add another layer to the glorious music of the mechanical orchestra.
The 2016 McLaren 570S also has a supercar performance since it can hit 0 to 60 mph in a matter of 3.1-seconds. That speed is proper supercar speed. The bottom line here is that this vehicle may not be a full-fledged supercar, but it is still a very extraordinary vehicle that will go down in the books.
