2016 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4T Review - A Compact That Rides Like a Luxury Sedan

The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4T Does Not Have Its Moniker for Nothing

On the outside, Chevy shaved and carved the exterior of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4T to achieve a smooth and smart-looking contemporary car. Chevy did away with the muscular and aggressive look of the previous generation Cruze and shaved off corners such as the roof and the bumpers. The result is a slightly smaller car compared to the previous generation both on the outside and the inside but retaining the same leg and knee room. Under the hood is a new 1.4liter turbo four cylinder that delivers 153hp and 177lb-ft of torque at a very low 2000rpm making for almost instant torque delivery. The new 6 speed automatic transmission is programmed to look for peak torque all of the time keeping the ride responsive, smooth, and efficient.

On the inside, there are still obvious hints that the 2016 Cruze 1.4T is a mainstream consumer’s car meant for mass production and value. The inside features hard plastic with a rubberized finish, cloth trim, and chunks of chrome here and there. Overall the interior looks smart and modern. The mash of materials blend together decently to form a cabin that wraps around the passengers.

Driving theCruze is well suited for cruising. The engine delivers peak torque at low revs with power falling off above 5000+ making it a waste of fuel going past that rpm range. The transmission is programmed to pair well with the new 1.4liter turbo and keeps delivering peak torque all of the time. The new engine is more powerful than the previous generation’s engines paired with the aerodynamic and lighter body, the Cruze can be a quick car when needed but not all the time as everything feels numb because of the super smooth suspension tuning. Steering is light and direct, and suspension damping is so soft, you might as well be driving a heavier luxury sedan. The Chevrolet Cruze is the compact car you can take on cross country trips without worrying about fuel cost, back aches, and sore bottoms.

The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4T is efficient, comfortable, spacious, practical. The interior hosts a solid tech offering along with 6 cup holders for the long haul. However, the driving experience takes a direct hit with the suspension tuning making for a fairly boring ride, but why buy a Cruze in the first place? For those looking for a good car, the 2016 Chevy Cruze is a great option, just don’t expect it to be sporty.
