The current generation Audi A8 arrived in 2010 and now on its sixth year, the marquee’s biggest sedan, now the 2016 Audi A8L 4.0T Sport, offers no signs of aging as it carries over the latest facelifts done to the Audi TT, A4, and Q7 to name a few. Over the years, it received more dynamically shaped lines, and interior updates.

2016 Audi A8L 4.0T Sport Review - Going Out With a Bang

The 2016 Audi A8L 4.0T Sport is Big in Terms of Comfort and Stability

The 2016 Audi A8L 4.0T Sport is available with a long wheelbase making for luxury sedan dimensions as well as comfort. The exterior is designed with a class-appropriate subtle design while still using Audi’s current angular company image. Onlookers will never really spot the luxury sedan unless they know what they’re looking for. The exterior design is kept stealthy and the only thing that will make the A8 stand out is the fact that it is one huge sedan. The side profile reveals the extra-long wheelbase that the vehicle possesses. Under the hood is a silky smooth turbocharged 4-liter V8 meant for cruising and occasional sprints. Power is rated at 450hp to haul the heavy sedan at freeway speeds and keep up with the other Germans.

On the inside, this is where one half of the perks of having a long wheelbase will pay off. There is nothing but room, comfort, and more room. Rear passengers are treated to heated seats with massage features. The interior is nicely padded to keep outside noise where it belongs. Due to the car’s age, most interior features are a bit behind when compared to the competition but not bare basic in any sense.

Driving the 2016 A8L 4.0T Sport is meant for cruising but when you want to do a sprint on this beast, the A8 with its standard all-wheel drive drivetrain can make the car lunge at a lighter and more nimble Chevy Corvette’s pace. Even in its sport trim, there is little when it comes to stiff suspension as the suspension puts comfort over anything else. Good thing there is decent feedback coming from the wheel itself as if offers a light feel yet precise response.

The potency of the 450hp turbocharged V8 is no slouch and will propel the 4672lb 2016 Audi A8L 4.0T Sport with ease. As a luxury car, even for its age when compared to its rivals, the A8 still places on top when it comes to comfort and roominess. The light steering and precise inputs with driver oriented sightlines makes the A8 manoeuver like a smaller car despite the long wheelbase. The cherry on is the all-wheel drive. However, looks can be a double edged sword, either you like how simple it is or hate how simple it is. Compared to its rivals the interior features are lacking in offers but in no way a bad cabin. Despite being behind the competition when it comes to interior, is still king of the luxury sedan segment.
