Pebble now returns into the wearable tech scene just six months after they have released the Round. And because the company already has a name for itself, it is back on Kickstarter with a new lineup of products. It has just been fifteen months after the firm has raised $20-million for the Time smartwatch on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. And this time around, the firm is back with the Pebble 2 and the Pebble Time 2. Furthermore, there’s one more surprise as they are now offering a non-smartwatch product called the Pebble Core.
Pebble Introduces the Pebble 2, Pebble Time 2, and Pebble Core
The Pebble 2 is being advertised by the company as the “most affordable” smartwatch that has a focus on fitness. It has a design that is reminiscent of the original Pebble smartwatch, albeit its sides are feels thinner and is a bit more tapered. Just like the original smartwatch from the company, as well as with the Pebble Time, this successor has an e-paper display that can stand up for a week-long of use with its battery. It is also waterproof to up to 30-meters in depth, and it also has a built-in microphone for taking notes or for making use of voice replies.
Just like last year’s record-breaker of a smartwatch, the Pebble Time 2 is the company’s attempt to compete into the Android Wear and Apple Watch sectors. It is about the same physical size as its predecessor, but its screen is made to be 50-percent larger. Furthermore, it touts a higher resolution with 80-percent more pixels. It also has a built-in heart-rate monitor and the battery life is rated for 10 days on a single, full charge.
While it is interesting to see that the company is back on its toes in delivering more gadgets in the wearable tech sector, they are also going into another category with the Pebble Core. The idea for the creation of this device is to decouple the smartwatch experience from the phone. In an interview with Mashable’s Christina Warren, Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky said the following: “Sometimes when you go out running, you don’t want to take your phone. You just want to run and listen to Spotify.”
The Pebble Core is a small, square-shaped object that is compact enough that it can pass as a keychain. It is a screenless device which can decouple some of the needs that is being connected with the smartphone from your watch. It can stream Spotify as well as it has a built-in GPS. It also has its own microphone which enables you to make voice memos.
