Withings Aura Review – Sleep Easier at Night, as Long as You Don’t Think About Its Price

The Withings Aura is an alarm clock and a speaker, and the purpose of the device is to help you get a good night’s sleep. It works with a dedicated app that can be used by Android and iOS devices. It does not only help you get a good night’s sleep, but it will also assist in you giving you a better way to wake up in the mornings, instead of being grouchy and cranky. While it is a great “all-in-one” device, interested buyers should be ready to shell out cash for its steep price tag.

The Withings Aura is Your All-in-One Device for Better Sleep

In terms of giving better sleep, the Withings Aura is able to deliver. Still, it does not work akin to a magic lamp wherein you would be able to instantly wish for better sleep and you will immediately get it. The better sleeping patterns do take time as your body needs to adjust to the new setting. However, your body will appreciate what you’re trying to do with it over time and will give you a more relaxing sleep. The length of time wherein the better sleep patterns will take effect is different from person-to-person.

For its design, the Withings Aura system, it is shaped like a funnel and has a height of about 11-inches. Its thickness is about the same as two paperback books. The look is not striking but it does have a modern feel to it. However, even though it does have a premium price tag, the build quality does not show it since it is predominantly made of plastic.

The device houses a dynamic LED lighting system, which will illuminate the unit. At its exterior and the top of the Aura, it has a touch-sensitive interface. The interface will be the controls for the device. Unfortunately, finding the “sweet spot” for these controls can be troublesome. For example, users may find themselves trying multiple times to turn off the alarm. This kind of defeats the purpose of letting you have better mornings as you might get frustrated in trying to turn off the alarm.

This unit works through its LED and sound system. First, if you’re about to fall asleep, the light and sound program will fade in a span of about 20 minutes. This will encourage the increase of melatonin in the body. Melatonin is a hormone in our bodies that is secreted in the pineal gland of the brain. The levels of melatonin will peak in darkness to induce sleep. In the morning, it does the reverse.

The Withings Aura may help a lot of people get a good night’s sleep. However, this is as far as the device is most useful. Turning off the alarm may be cumbersome and its size is not the most compact for a bedroom companion. Also, the hefty price tag is too steep that many would just turn away from it at first glance.
