How will it appeal to you if you just have to cast your vote via online? That would be great right? Definitely yes! There is a new technique that researchers have develop and this technique will let people cast their vote online, this could mean that even if you are just sitting in front of your home computer regardless of either it is infected with viruses or not you can formally choose an individual to hold a position.

A system that will let you cast your vote online.

This is what a research group at the University of Birmingham had develop. A system that is inspired by banks security devices, this system will allow and let people cast vote via-online by utilization of one particular hardware device to be attached in your own home computer.

This system adds weight to e-voting and according to the researchers this particular technique will already be available and could be use in time for the 2020 or 2025 General Election in the UK.

The study of this system is led by Professor Mark Ryan. What he says about this latest technique?

  • This system works by employing a credit card-sized device similar to those used in online banking. It is called Du-Vote, and we have been developing it over the past two years. From the voter’s perspective, it’s straightforward: you receive a code on the device and type it back into the computer.
  • The main advantage of this system is that it splits the security between the independent security device and a voter’s computer or mobile device.
  • A computer is a hugely powerful, all-purpose machine running billions of lines of code that no one really understands, whereas the independent security device has a much, much smaller code base and is not susceptible to viruses.

Additionally, this system is capable of detecting malware because it uses a separate security device. In the meantime we just have to wait for UK’s general election either in 2020 or 2025 partially we have a glimpse of what should be the future of casting votes.
